Clean Your Gutters

Cleaning your gutters is something that needs to be on your fall checklist each year. Your gutters are sure to become filled with debris during the fall season, and if that debris isn’t removed before winter, your roof could be at risk of serious damage. To clean your gutters, you’ll need a ladder, a bucket or bag to put debris in, and a pair of gloves to protect your hands. Remove any visible debris from the gutters. Once you’ve finished, run water through the gutter system with a hose. The water should flow freely through the gutter system. If the water is still getting backed up, there’s a blockage somewhere in the gutter or downspout system. 

Tree Maintenance

Trees should be trimmed each fall. This helps remove dead or weak branches that would likely fall on their own after snow and ice start piling up. By removing the branches in the fall, you don’t have to worry about it falling through your roof unexpectedly in the winter! Trees that overhang your roof and gutter systems pose the biggest risk. A professional tree trimmer will be able to assess the health of the tree to determine what branches actually need to be trimmed. Trimming down large branches and limbs requires skill, the right tools, and the correct safety equipment to keep both you and your home safe. Roof Inspection

Your roof should be inspected annually to look for signs of damage that needs to be repaired. You can try to inspect the roof yourself, but it’s ideal to hire professional roofing contractor. A roofing inspection requires a ladder and knowledge of how to safely maneuver around the top of the roof. You also need to know how to identify early warning signs of roof damage, which is no small task! You’ll need to make a note of any signs of damage you find so future repairs can be scheduled.
